| Soon after he returned from service in World War II, in June of 1946 Tracy Plyler opened Happy Day Laundry. "TP", as his friends liked to call him, liked the name "Happy Day", which was the name of a drycleaners store in Nashville. He asked permission to use the name for his Memphis store, and it was granted. Built on the concept of personal service, the original store and plant is still located at 1649 Union Avenue. |

The Plylers have always thrived on personal service, and that is still evident today. Tracy's son, Bobby, bought the company in 1978, and has continued the attentive services founded by his father. The business has expanded to includes new stores Downtown, in Harbor Town, and on the South Bluffs. Their service picks-up and delivers clothes to homes, businesses, and to the Memphis International Airport. The Plylers have even opened the store after hours to accommodate customers before trips, or in cases of emergency.
Anne Plyler, Tracy's wife, said, "If you can't help your fellow man, what's the point of being in business?" Aside from being active members in the community, the Plylers also like to keep business close to home, (Bobby still lives in the neighborhood).
